McRat
By Melissa

Clip to ScrapBook
Here in AR we use the Mcrat Program: MultiCultural
Reading And Thinking. Is anyone familiar with it? I have only used it one year, but it seems to be really good at getting the kids to organize their thoughts. I was amazed at the essays (3 to 5 paragraphs) these kids turned out. There are 4 strategies that are taught. Analysis (story elements, parts of a whole, etc.) Compare (comparing characters, novels, etc.) Infer (inferring mood, feeling, meaning, etc.), and Evaluate (evaluate methods, choices, etc.) Each strategy builds on the previous one. It comes with a HUGE manual, and about 60 hours inservice per year for two years. I wondered if anyone uses it besides us?
