grading

After reading the other posts, I think I may go with rubrics myself this year (to teach 5th grade). I taught 8th grade last year (lang. arts only) and I graded every word, punctuation, etc... Yes, it was time consuming, but they sure knew to check their work better that way. I used to take off 1/2 point for every run-on sent., punctuation error, etc... I just circled the errors and they had to go back and correct them.
