I also teach 5th grade and I buy the names tags from the teacher store or really good stuff that have the multiplication table, shapes, place value, and cursive writing on it. I have found for the past two years this had| helped my students a lot. I laminate them and place them in the center of their desks. I also don't like that they write all over them and then get torn up with them pulling out books and papers. I like that magnetic idea and the idea of taping copies to both sides of the desk. I am also going to laminate a free homework pass to the back. I will tell my students that if they keep their names | | tags neat and clean throughout the whole year they will be able to take it off their desks in late May or June and use it. Only if it is clean, not torn, and looks as new as the first day of school. I am hoping this idea will keep them from tearing them off the sides and front. I got this idea from another teacher on the boards.
