A great resource!

A really good teacher book I used is called "Keep tha Rest of the Class Reading and Writing...While you Teach Small Groups" by Susan Finney; published by Scholastic. It offers many activities to use to teach literary skills
using picture books. One of my students' favorite was Caldecott Bingo (the book has the board and activities to complete before they earn a box). Those that completed, won a popcorn movie party. Some other suggetions were, alliteration-Rotten Island by William Steig;Zinnia by Anita Lobel; Metaphor-Oregon's Journey by Rascal; ; irony-Many Moons by James Thurber, Where the Buffalos
Begin by Olaf Baker; Similie- The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses by Paul Goble, etc. etc. There are many more but my hands are getting tired. I highly recommend buying this book because I think it's exactly what you're looking for. (I bought it at a teacher store). And most of the picture books can be taken out of your local library! Hope this helps.
