grade 1 vs kindergarten

Actually they are similar in many respects which makes it nice for teachers to be able to try both grades over time.

With grade 1 you have a more specified curriculum - you teach math, language arts, science, social studies.
Whereas in kindergarten it is more basic skills - the alphabet, patterns, number recognition, etc.,
The children are just a bit more mature so they are more ready to learn, stay on task, etc.,

I found when I taught kindergarten there was a lot more preparation needed for things like art, activities, centers, etc., And you spent more time on these types of activities. While

I like being creative, I also enjoy planning lessons, etc., over planning art or crafts and so on.

Personally I think you should go for it - 1 year is not a long period of time - if you do not enjoy grade 1 at least you have your foot in the door and can look for a kindergarten position for the following year.
