class placements By sandy

This is a little late, but may still be beneficial. Our school does things a bit differently. During May, teachers from different grade levels get together to determine class lists for the following year. For instance,| since I teach 4th grade, my team and I meet with 5th grade teachers to determine best placement for kids we are sending on. We also meet with 3rd grade teachers to determine placement for students coming to 4th grade. Our class lists are pretty much in place, then, before the end of the school year. This allows us to attend IEP meetings etc. of our incoming students. For the most | | part, students and parents are not aware of who will be in which class until later. We really do not grant parent requests, but we have to allow for incoming students, students who withdraw, etc. We may need to move some students to balance out class sizes. Our class lists are posted on the school doors about a week and a half before the beginning of the school year. We are also expected to send home a letter/postcard to each student welcoming them back to school.
