Title I won't touch students with IEP's... By Denese

with a 10 foot pole at my school, which is also considered a school-wide Title I school. I've been a little angry about this. The school was the recipient of a large grant for a reading program this year. Children in grades| K-3 were placed into reading groups based on their reading level for 90 minute daily blocks. I teach a cross-cat class, grades 1-5 and my students weren't allowed to participate. I really feel that they would've benefited from this reading grant because the program allowed groups to be smaller and more focused. I had 14 students, some reading on a K level, some on a 1st/2nd gr. level, | | some on a 3rd grade level, and one reading on her own grade level (5th). There were only two adults in the room, which made individual instruction very difficult, if not impossible. It's almost as if someone wants to place us in a back room somewhere and forget we're even in the building. I don't know enough about Title I services to say whether or not they were not fulfilling their duties, but the grant was not a Title I grant, but those teachers were responsible for creating the groups and doing the PALS testing. Sorry about the vent.
