There are several wonderful professional books you might read to help you get started...'And With A Light Touch' was written by Carol Avery and highlights her years as a first grade teacher. Next on the must

read list are...Guided Reading by Fountas and Pinnell, Perspectives on Shared Reading by Fisher & Fisher, Word Matters by Fountas and Pinnell, Interactive Writing by McCarrier & Pinnell as well as Cognitively Guided Instruction by Carpenter and Fennema. I think all are published by Heinemann. If you buy them on their web site, they give a discount, or some you might find on the secondary
