Pull-Out vs. Bussing

This is what my district does also (see first post). As a former ESL teacher, I have to say that the benefits to this model are many. The amount of support available to the children as well as their families in this type
of model is far greater than what is available to them in a model where the esl teacher is traveling. Typically in that scenario they see the teacher in a pull out setting, maybe a few times a week for an hour or so. That is absolutely not in sync with current best practices in esl teaching and learning.
What doesn't conform with the law, in my opinion, is the pullout model when students

receive so little support. These students are often floundering in a school environment that is totally overwhelming, and for most of their day they are not receiving instruction that is at their instructional level due to language barriers. Sure, with the push these days for small group instruction, that helps them in the general classroom, but as non-native speakers of English they will always have very specific needs that don't fit into "typical" reading/writing groups.
