Hi! I am in the same boat although I have taught many split grades and even quintuple grades in one
room. DO THE BEST YOU CAN!!!Split grades are the norm in our northern Ontario community. I do not know anyone who can
do it all! Even in a single grade they barely get the 5 strands covered. I did not cover all the material this year. Neither did any of my colleages. I have been to workshops this year and the advice we were given was to look at all the expectations of both grades see what you can be combined. Find a common theme and try to get those expectations covered within that unit.
We were
told to look at the big picture. I don't know how your curriculum is set up but we have specific and overall expectations , we were told to look at the overall expectations and find some links. The very specific expectations we could not cover them all it is impossible!!!!!We were able to find some common links with some variables for each grade. It help get a clearer picture of how to structure your year. Hope it helps!! Remember you are not SUPERWOMAN!!!
