There is a federal law that covers discrimination on the basis of pregnancy. Unless your contract specifically covers unwed pregnancy you should be protected by federal law against having your job terminated. And you should
be entitled to all the same medical and leave benefits as anyone else in your school district.

As to the parents and students, I think its always wise to tell the truth - as much or as little as you wish. If a parent asks if you're pregnant, you can answer yes and tell your due date. You can move on to discuss the plans you and your principal have made for the class while you

are away. If they have the gall to ask if you're married you can answer, truthfully, "Not yet, but we're working on it." Anyone who asks more than that should get a stare and either no answer at all or "Why would you possibly need to know that?" For your students start with the same yes and due date. If they ask about your husband just explain that not all mommies are married. You can bet that will deflect the discussion because many of the students in your class will likely be from one parent families or know someone who is. They already know that not all mommies are married and it will become "no big deal".
