How much info do you want to share? By Ally

That was just a very hot topic on one of the boards when a poster told her class she was gay in response to their questions. There were, understandably, lots of different ideas about how much of your personal life that you| share. Lots of people live together nowadays, so you may find it is not much of an issue...I think I would figure out a "standard response" that you will give if a student or parent should ask about your marital status and stick with that and little else. It is your job to teach the gr. 4 curriculum...no one needs know to anything about your personal life. You may turn a few heads, | | who knows and, as long as it does not cost you your job, who cares? When I taught preschool and was pregnant, I told the director and no one else. I figured people would catch on eventually but until then, I didn't really care to discuss it with parents or the kids. I just carried on as usual. When it became obvious I got a few questions about when I was due, and one mum actually asked me if I was married (I am, but I did not wear rings to school...too much playdough and craft glue to dig out of them) and I said "Yes, why?" (with a polite little inquisitive smile) She went red and evaded the question...I think she realized it was really not her business. Basically be ready to answer questions if they come up and if you look calm and unaffected, maybe it will rub off on everyone else!? Good luck!
