This is a late reply, but I love this idea that I just read........ make a huge US map on a bulletin board and do a postcard exchange with other states and let the kids tack them up with yarn (to read the backs) and see how many different states/cities you can receive. They can write information like what they like to eat, recreation, etc... in the area.
