Seymour Simon
By Dedi

Clip to ScrapBook
You're welcome. If you do (or anyone else does) look into it, please post to share what you found out. I wonder what Lori2 thinks-- she seems to have read just every children's book there is!

Also, there is still a
lot of good information (and pictures) in the Seymour Simon books. Since you have older kids, you might want to take advantage of that and throw in a mini-lesson pointing out that you sometimes find inaccurate information and/or inconsistencies from one text to the next. (again, I can't take credit- my professor's suggestion). She also had us read the book flaps and acknowledgements.
It was interesting to note which authors had consulted or co-wrote with experts in the field/topic of the book and which hadn't, and how much credibility that earned them.

I have 3rd graders, so I'm not going to try that, but it might be interesting in 6th. I do have the whale and shark books on my book rack right now as part of our ocean unit, and my students LOVE them!
