You're normal!!!!

Don't worry, Laura, what you are experiencing is perfectly normal. We call it "summer fever" and it's hard for kids--even the "good kids"--not to begin to "shut down." All they can see is SUMMER VACATION!!

I think another
reason for this attitude might be ambivalent feelings. (This was touched on a previous post somewhere.) On the one hand, they are excited about summer--on the other, they may be regretting (even if they don't voice it!) seeing a great school year close.

I saw that in my own youngsters--some of who started becoming fairly obnoxious after the long weekend over Memorial Day. Today

was our last day of school! SURPRISE!! The students who misbehaved the most were the ones who hugged me so tightly or voiced regrets about how sad they were the year was over so quickly!!

Go figure!!
