permanent subbing

I am a permanent sub for a district on Long Island. I absolutely LOVE it!! Although it is nice to have the flexibility of regular subbing, being permanent has many benefits. In my district, I get medical benefits along
with my pay. I also have the opportunity to sub in all grade levels, special areas and resource rooms. I have gotten to know and become friendly with all the teachers and staff in my building. I have also gotten to know a large majority of the students. You really become a part of the staff when you are there on a daily basis. I also hated those early AM phone calls so this set up is

perfect for me! At least I know what school I'm going to be in, even if I don't know the grade. I guess it all depends on your situation, but for me (1 year out of college) this is great right know - but i do hope to get a regular position soon. Some districts hire from their sub lists - so this is a good way to get a foot in the door (especially lere on LI where it is almost impossible to get a job w/o knowing somebody).
