sorting/classification By Boomerang

Why not have a brief lesson on different ways to sort/classify? Use books or balls or something to have students solicit ideas on how to group them? By color. By use. By shape. Etc. Actually let the students move the| objects into different piles/boxes to group them. After the lesson divide your class into several groups and have them practice the same sorting activity using one shoe from each student. There is no right /wrong way to sort...they just have to be able to explain how/why they chose their classifications. Tie, velcro, color, sport, dress, etc. (To save time have the desks pregrouped | | together for the division before the lesson starts)Let each group briefly report/explain their decisions to the class. Based on timing, you could also follow up with a little worksheet to "test" each individual with a classification activity where they draw circles or lines to sort the pictures on the sheet. Or you could "chart" the activity results on the board for all to see. Good luck and remember to have fun and smile....your on video after all!!! If you don't use this activity at least try to use something that will allow the students to be talking/contributing as much as posssible. The less "lecture/teaching" the better.
