Sailing Theme

First Day Activity - draw a lifepersver, copy one for every child. Have them write about a summer adventure they had (or any topic you choose). Cut out the middle of the life perserver (circle hole) and frame their picture on the first day of school inside the hole. Then put up a sailboat (I made mine by using clip art and an overhead). Attach all the life rings to the sail boat with string. "Sail into Success" or Sail into _____ grade. A Mailbox magazine a few years ago had a whole bunch of sailor clip art that I had copied. I also give my kids a travel brochure that we read through on the first day. It says the rules for our journey and what they need to pack for survival (supplies) as well as our daily iternery(Sp??).
