WELCOME TREAT: http://www.kitchengifts.com/NAUTICAL.html
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT: For a whole class reward, put up a large strip of blue paper across your room, and move a small sailboat a designated amount of space for each reward earned. When the boat reaches the end, some type of class treat/time is awarded. For individual, if you use something similar to a card system, you could make each student a small sailboat with a magnet on back. Use the edge of the chalkboard or side of a metal cabinet to set it up. Put up a brown paper dock where all students will begin the day. Put blue wavy lives for each level/infraction. (First line away from dock is a warning, etc.) Students can move their boats when they need to. "Make good choices and you'll SAIL through the year!" READING CORNER: "Set Sail with a Good Book!" Put a blue rug and some blue beanbags. Post photos of sailboats all around to make the corner cozy. Hang a couple of those white foam lifesaver (either real or paper) on the wall. OR find a small wooden boat to paint and throw pillows in for students to sit in. OR use a big intertube for kids to "float" on while reading. DOOR: http://www.carsondellosa.com/mainsearch.pl NAMETAGS: Find sailboat clip-art and put the students names on them. Laminate and attach to their desks. HALL PASS: Get a little plastic sailboat from the dollar store and write your name/room number on it. OR, I have seen wood cut-outs in the shape of sailboats at stores like Hobby Lobby, and Garden Ridge. WALLPAPER BORDER: Find some inexpensive sailboat related wallpaper border and use it to go around doors, windows, boards, etc. BULLETIN BOARDS: Use sailboat or ocean themed fabric for your backgrounds. It will last all year and doesn't show staple holes. GOOD WORK BOARD: Put up a large net background and use small clothepins to attach work. "CAUGHT: Good Work!"
