My Best Idea By Donna

I went to Target and bought a wire crate that has hanging file folders. Each file is numbered, and my students are numbered in ABC order. Every morning, students are responsible for putting homework in their files. I have| a dry erase marker board next to the files. The chalkboard works fine, too. When they go to specials, it only takes me a few minutes to look in each file and see if homework is there. If it's missing, I write that student's number on the marker board. When they return from specials, it becomes habit for them to check the board. Some will remember it's in their desk or backpack and give | | it to me. They erase their numbers. Those who don't have it complete it during recess and take home a demerit. The nicest thing about the files is at the end of the day when I empty them. Papers are already in ABC order for grading. I'm not wild about the idea of having students check for homework. It causes too many hard feelings.
