summer school books
By Tina

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi. I have taught summer school to 1st and 2nd graders for the past three years and will do so again this summer. Our summer school lasts 3 weeks, so I usually choose 2 or sometimes 3 themes to go on. Last year I did a study
on reptiles. I gathered any books that I had related to reptiles (try to get multiple copies if possible). Then, I went to the local library to gather more. I rubber banded like books together and put them all in one plastic crate. Then, I put the single copies in another crate. This worked well for silent reading and buddy reading. If I had multiple copies (4 or 5) of a particular
book, I did guided reading with groups. I enjoyed using the book, Alternatives to worksheets. Great ideas for themed units. Gather books about the tundra in this way might be helpful. I also used lots of graphic organizers (Venn diagrams to compare alligators to crocodiles and frogs to toads, KWL charts, etc.) Sorry I don't have anything specific to the tundra. Hope that helps.
