upper grade guided reading

Hi I am a reading support teacher and I'm trying to encourage our upper grade teachers to do guided reading. We are dealing with real space issues. They don't want to even learn about GR because they say they have no space for it. I'm trying to come up with ways to deal with the problem. Space is extremely tight. 32 students in portables with no extra storage or room for extra tables. And these kids are good size so their body takes up a lot of space. I like the idea of the tables but many of our teachers won't want to give up the individual desks. Any other ideas?
