Writing help
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Elaine,
Yes, the district requires we use six traits to evaluate our students' writing. Perhaps my problem is the 'authenticity' of the writing. We read and discuss LOTS of wonderful books, but even by pointing out the characteristics of an author's work, I feel that for some of my children they're still writing because it's expected. For others, the writing's coming from them, but I would like to see the depth and breadth of their reading glimmer in their writing. Technically most are competent writers...maybe I need to reread Atwell and Calkins works again!!! If you have the title of the book you were thinking of, let me know. And THANKS for the thoughtful reply. ;-D
