Better Late than Never
By Erica

Clip to ScrapBook
In my district, we use the Standards (we follow the America's Choice whole reform model) to guide our instruction. There is a school-based genre schedule that lets us know by what date the specific genre (which are all apart
of our writing standards) should be completed by. Right now for example, we have just begun teaching the elements of Standard E2d- Narrative Procedure. My Mini Lessons this weeek have focused on breaking down each element of the Standard to terms that the students understand. The students then work on pre-writing (for the first few days) and continue with the steps of the Writing
Process as I continue to with the Mini Lesson. The students are allowed to peer Conference (with permission) and I Conference with individuals based on what they have done so far (or even on another writing task).
A suggestion for those of you who don't have something concrete to follow, I suggest that you work on Character Development when writing a narrative story, and other focuses that will help your students (all of our students) become better Writers! Reading and modeling through good Children's literature is a great way to begin! Good Luck, and sorry for the late reply Erica-
