What I'm doing . . .
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
Debbie,
I am seriously charting my schedule looking for wasted time that I can use more effectively. After I complained about time, I realized that I hadn't really given my schedule a chance. It's just too easy to blame
a factor that is out of my control for lack of success, but if I am determined to make this work (and I am because I feel it will benefit my students), I need to look for solutions instead of excuses.

As far as what do I think is not viable in my situation, I don't think I can make literature studies fit. I know I can do the GR and the IR. I actually already do IR in what I call

Individualized Reader's Workshop. My students even already respond in a Journal once every 6-day rotation. However, I just don't see how I can do the literature study as a whole separate component along with everything else. Right now I am covering genre studies by reading short stories during read aloud -- I guess you'd call it shared reading. Would that qualify as literature study?
Elaine
