No Worksheets
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Mary,
Another good question...If you've read the overview of the GR & W book, you'll see that there isn't mention of many worksheets. My afternoon is essentially set up the following way:
12:45-1:15 Read aloud,
Word Work
1:15-2:10 Reader's Workshop
2:10-3:05 Writer's Workshop
Some of the additional LAB (Language Arts block)
stuff is done in the morning by my partner-interactive edit, spelling practice (though I choose the mini lessons and teach those), current events...
The children have a form that's used for 'Look, Say, Cover, Write Check'(Spelling), and a form for recording
independent reading, and draft writing piece topics; plus a reader's response log, spelling notebook and writer's notebook. But that's essentially it for papers. Everything else is their creation. Social Studies and Science topics are integrated as best we can, (This is Chris and my first year teaching Multiage 3/4) so I don't have all the literature titles I'd like yet. In the morning, she creates meaningful problems for them to solve (usually they do one a day) however, she does use a sheet for practicing math facts. Every now and then, she'll pull a sheet that the other teachers might use to check to see that the kids have the 'skills' they need...we just did the end of book tests to see that we've 'covered it all'. Hope this helps...thanks for asking. ;-D
