Readers' workshop
By Vickie

Clip to ScrapBook
Anne,
I eagerly await D's response to your post. Your description sounds similar to what I have been attempting to implement in my classroom. I teach ESL second graders, and the idea was to use grade level text to teach comprehension skills, but since most of my kids don't read at grade level, I would do most if not all of the reading. Then, I would pull them in groups to have them read text at their instructional levels, with the focus being on reading for fluency, decoding skills, etc. I too would like to hear from others on this model.
It has been very difficult to manage time wise because we have a one hour reading block, that's it.
Any way, thanks for your validating description.
