What I meant was that the books that I 'peeked' at looked like the words were controlled by phonemic elements...so a short vowel Aa reader might have a title 'Max the Cat'. Some theorists believe that if you control the
phonemic elements (sounds)-the child will be a 'reader'. The old Dick and Jane series was a 'whole word' approach- teach the key sight words and the child would be a 'reader'. And again, I really didn't get to take an indepth look at any of the books. So I couldn't say for certain what approach they were taking. I just know that you really wanted to level your books carefully for your
children and wanted to mention that point as well. If you still have wonders, just ask...It's wonderful that you're questioning! Keeps us growing!!!
