Comparison of books

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Betsy,
I guess I'll stick with the Guiding Readers and Writers book for several reasons. We did purchase the Word Work block books for the phonics instruction (per AZ state law). From everything I've read on the 4
blocks program, the reading component is to do whole group instruction at different levels thruout the week, so you'd be using a GL book for 3 days of lessons, then the other 2 days you'd use something that was below level...Someone correct me if I misread...I can't see meeting the needs of learners using whole group reading. I do whole group minilessons, but the rest of the LAB time is
spent in small dynamic groups or individual conferences.
I think that Heinemann gives a 10% discount on books purchased thru their website, it would save sales tax and pay for the shipping and handling. You might also look to see if any of the local university book stores have it used...we're currently using it for reading and language arts methods. ;-D
