I think my concern with using the basal and lessons as given, is that they're written with the idea that everyone in the room needs that 'skill'. When you're working with a group for guided reading, the level of the students reading should be similar, and there should be a purpose for why you've brought them together. If it's a literature conversation, the dynamics are different. With the limited time in daily schedules, it might be better to group by need. Any thoughts? Anyone else have other suggestions for incorporating the basal texts? ;-D
