Started independent reading GRW

I started to implement the GRW independent reading (Elaine, I thought I would wait until next year but I decided to dive right in). I am combining some of the daily mini-lessons into one. I wouldn't do this in September but my students knew the routine for the classroom library. We won't be writing in journal until next week, we did "buzz" effectively. They were going beyond the regular re-telling and connecting, predicting. I really like the motto "Reading is Tbinking" that is mentioned in the book. The mini-lessons and conferencing is more meaningful than the silent sustained reading.
