Just a Thought
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
Debbie,
Couldn't JS use her basal reading hunks and suggested activities for guided reading groups and let the students read novels for independent reading and literature studies? Wouldn't it be like using a short story
or an article. As long as she started with a mini-skill lesson (one right from the book) and during reading the students practiced that skill/strategy? Am I totally off base in my thinking? I haven't read far enough yet to offer advise, so I am asking you what you think?

Of course, I don't know how that would work with the reading specialist who comes in. What about JS taking

a couple of GR groups each day and the Spec. taking a couple of groups. They could both use the same lesson from the reading text. At least if she insisted on round robin, the groups would be small in comparison to whole-class. I love your idea of putting the Good-bye RR book out for her to see! It just might work!
Elaine
