We must all be in the same boat! We have eliminated Harcourt and Houghton Mifflin and narrowed it to Everyday and Trailblazers. We found that between Harcourt and Houghton that Harcourt was a bit better in teaching Number
Sense and Probability. Their assessments (only multiple choice tests) were a concern along with their geometry unit (students would only cover three shapes by third grade). However, Houghton had better Geometry and assessments, but lacked largely in the number sense area. I have talked to many different teachers at different levels in different schools that have Everyday and really
like teaching with it and are seeing some great things. I think it's a fairly well-balanced program. Trailblazers has a lot of good things in it - especially in the open-ended problem solving and discovering areas. I am a little unsure about their vocabulary being a bit above their ability, but am just starting to do some sampling in my classroom with it. It took me a little while to figure out the layout of Trailblazers, but I think I have the hang of it now. Please be sure to share with me what your staff finds and thinks!
