Oh they tried that: write a row of 7's then X'x etc. and I put a stop to that. I told them that is not helping them one bit. They need to be saying the mult. problem to themself as they write not 777777777777 and XXXXXXXXXXXX etc. They are just looking for the easy way out and there isn't one.
Thanks for the Buzz game. I'm going to try that! I do give the timed tests as well. I stress that they aren't trying to beat anyone else in the class; they are trying to beat their last score. Thanks for the ideas!
