Decimals
By Melissa

Clip to ScrapBook
I found a ton of stuff online. Type in keyword Decimal. One activity I am doing tomorrow is NASCAR and decimals. I will have the driver, time, fraction, decimal and word form. Students will have to write it all out but
so far they are loving decimals.

I introduced this by using the Human Decimal Machine. On cards I had numbers 1-9 and a decimal point that said AND. I chose one to be the AND. I call on students to go to the front of the room and arrange themselves and form a number using a decimal. Then, I have an "audience" member say the number. I focus a lot on the AND person (he/she) jumps

when they are about to be read. The first day I put three students behind the tenths, hundredths and thousandths place. This has helped them visualize the chart!
