I have a 1,2,3 combo class. For math, I work with one grade level every day. For instance, on Monday I teach a new concept to the first graders. On Tuesday, they are with my aid to practice the new concept. On Wednesday, they are practicing independently on something they are very familiar with. This system keeps rotating and has worked out well. I have a strict rule that the students who are practicing independently must not interrupt me when I'm with another group unless it is an emergency. I also have math folders that I keep practice work in so that students have something to do if they are finished with their work before math time is over.
