ESL and reading
By Tammy

Clip to ScrapBook
Amanda,

I have not had any training in ESL (although I do speak Spanish), but I an currently doing some action lab work in a first grade classroom with a teacher that has been very successful in this area. At the beginning of the school year she received a little hispanic girl who spoke no English. The little girl is now speaking English and reading as well as several of her classmates.
My teacher started the year with Guided Reading and still teaches contexual phonics. This approach has been very successful for her.

Good luck,
Tammy
