Pre-college planning
By Laura. Again!

Clip to ScrapBook
Me again I forgot to answer your ? about pre-college planning! Basically what I did, since I didn't know what I wanted to major in, was plan out my liberal studies classes for each semester. You may want to see about making
an appointment with an advisor at the college you plan on going to. They can talk to you about the major. I finally saw one last semester and she planned out the rest of my college career, which is excellent! I never saw one before because I figured I could just do everything myself, but it is so much easier if you have an advisor!! You can also start observing in classes and do volunteer
work with children (I volunteer at Barnes and Nobles. I do story time. You can also go to your local district offices and ask them about volunteering in classrooms.) Gathering letters of recommendation are always a good idea! You can also look at what exams are required for your program. In Arizona, where I am now, there isn't an exam until you've actually graduated from college. In Maryland, however, I have to take the Praxis just to get accepted into the education program. So I've been preparing for that. If you do need to take some kind of exam in order to be accepted, I strongly recommend buying a study guide with practice tests in it! Okay, one more thing and I'll stop babbling! If you haven't already (and if you know which level you are interested in teaching) it is never too early to begin your classroom library or to begin gathering ideas. All of my professors have told me this! I go to a lot of used bookstores to buy books. You can also find a lot on Ebay. Many times people sell bundles of books for a cheap price! Well, again, sorry this is so long. I tend to get carried away sometimes!

Laura
