Clarify...
By Sped Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Monica,

Jody was on the right track, but I just wanted to clarify that Self-contained for special ed is usually meaning where (like you'd thought) students are taught within the special ed classroom by a special ed teacher
all the time. LIke sometimes you'll have a Self-contained (S/C) Learning DIsabilities room, or a Self-contained Mentally impaired room, or a S/C Autism room. I teach a Self-contained room for students with Autism so I have only students with autism and they are in my room all the time, not in general ed.

Inclusion and Mainstreaming are generally the same thing...although inclusion

is usually where the specai ed student is more "included" in the general ed. classroom, but may still receive special ed services in their areas of need...and mainstreaming is more of the special ed student goes to general ed for certain things like specials (music, gym, art, etc) or an area of strength (math, reading, etc.)

In many places, Mainstreaming and Inclusion are often the same thing just by a different name.
