Cursive Center
By PI

Clip to ScrapBook
Jenobie,
I guess you really did spark a discussion. I'll have to go on record as agreeing with the other posters about students needing to learn to read and write cursive and about teachers needing to adhere to district
standards.

I do have one problem, however. When come to me from 3rd grade, they come with such a variety of handwriting methods -- cursive and manuscript. Some can barely form manuscript letters correctly. Some have great difficulty staying within the line and margin constraints of notebook paper. And some write as well or better than most adults in either manuscript and cursive.

I have decided the only way to meet the varying needs of my students while maximizing our time in core subject area is to have handwriting practice as a center. I always start out with all the best intentions, and then when the going gets rough and hectic, I fizzle out. Any tips along these lines would be very helpful.
Thanks,
PI
