centers

Clip to ScrapBook
My Aunt Ann wrote several books in the late 80's on learning centers. They are called MAGIC and More MAGIC. (Magic stands for "Meaningful Activities for Gifted in the Classroom") I am currently using these books...she
gave me a copy, but you can buy them from Creative Press. I am a Special Education teacher and the activities work for LD, ED, and CDB students as well as Gifted. What you do is pick a subject of interest: For Volcanoes and Eathquakes, I did a "Shake and Bake" box. Inside of a box put books, pictures, viewmasters, magazines, and activities on the topic. The students can go to the box
during center time and choose something to work on. My science teacher has "Tic-Tac-Toe" worksheets for the students. They choose 3 different activities on the subject to "win". You can have hands-on things in the box, as well as seatwork type of worksheets. My CDB students loved the volcano coloring books. Many of the books and materials I received free from the Net by going to places listed in the "Instructor" magazine.
