Clip to ScrapBook
Hi. I am a special education teacher who also has students struggling to learn this information. I too am trying to think of ideas in addition to having them copy their personal information and recite it to me or to the
teaching assistant. Here are two other things I've tried:

---recording their personal information onto a cassette with the child sitting next to me as I record. One cassette per student makes it easier to organize. I repeat the information 3 or more times and speak as slowly as the child would be able to read it or say it. The last time I have the child recite it with me. Now the

student has an individualized listening/speaking activity and the teacher's time can be used for periodic reinforcement. Of course, a paraprofessional or parent volunteer could also be enlisted to help record and/or to listen to the child say the info. "live".

---assigning students to read/recite their personal information as a homework assignment. If the assignment has no written response component then the parent signs that their child read/recited their address, telephone number, birthdate.

Would be interested to know how others teach this. Thanks in advance.
