I also enjoy hearing how things go over in Britain. I visited twice as a college student and even did a research paper on British reading instruction practices. But that was way back in the 70's. I'm sure things have changed a great deal since then. What kind of independent work do your students do while you are working with your two groups? Is this type of instruction happening across the board in Britain? In the U.S. it seems like every school, every district, every state has a different way of doing things. There are some principles that overlay most instruction, but the specifics are so different in different places that changing school, much less moving between states, can be intimidating!
