Writer's Workshop integration
By Debbie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi again Fiona,
Yes, writing is incorporated. During Reader's Workshop, the kids are responsible to write at least one thoughtful response each week.
Since some of the books chosen for LAB are SS oriented, the responses
will be centered more around nonfiction or historical fiction. For Writer's Workshop, some of their writing is nonfiction. When we started our AZ studies at the beginning of the year, we did the K-W-H-L, what do you Know, what do you Want to know, How will you find out, what have you Learned...then each child chose what topic they were interested in and I modeled the research process
for them, as they compiled information to present to the group as a whole. In addition, the kids chose their writing topics, so some really enjoy non-fiction. If you want info. on mini lessons for research/non-fiction, try Donald Graves book on the subject. There are LOTS of great books the writing process, if you'd like titles, just post again or email. ;-D
