I teach in a Catholic School and I know that we are required to teach so many minutes of each subject per week. We need to come up with a schedule that encompasses this time. Sounds like your principal is a control freak. If his schedule does not suite your classes needs perhaps you can devise your own that will show him you are including what needs to be taught.
Children do need a structured schedule. Teachable moments do not come up every day. You need to adhere to the curriculum to make sure that the children are able to be successful when they get to the next level. Whether you teach in private or public school the are certain things that must be done and schedules that must be kept.
