How old am I?
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
All year long, I play an age game with my kids. They ask, I lie!!!!! They guess, I lie!!!!!! I never tell the same lie twice -- it's that simple. They never know for sure. I tell them I'll give them a math problem at the
end of the year that will give them my age (assuming they can solve the problem). I make up some big old hairy problem that requires some research, problem solving strategies, and correct use of order of operations. If someone discovers my age, I admit it to the solver only and swear him or her to secrecy (which is a joke!!!).

We have lots of fun playing the age game. When I want

to get their attention during classtime, I throw out a clue such as I remember I was in school when their were only 48 states!!!!!!!!!!!!

A couple of years ago one of my students wrote my real age in one of our literature books for my new students to discover. It's funny because when they discover it, they think that's the age I still am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope they don't quit asking because I have too much fun teasing (and lying!). I am always flattered when they call me mom or grandma!!! I take it as a high compliment!!!!!

P.S. Sue, I love the Carol Burnett quote!!!!!!
