First "career"
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
Throughout my first career (and even today) I'm called Mom!
During my second career (and even today) I'm called Grandma (well, really Meme -- I know that's not how you spell it, but I didn't write it the first time it
was written).
I was a daycare provider from my home (so I be home with those who called me "Mom").
I sewed display clothing for Walmart (was I famous -- or what?).
I did quilting and counted cross-stitch (was I creative or what?).
Just before going to college, I was heavily into making porcelain dolls (was I too cute or what?).

Finally, as a teacher, I am still Mom and

Meme, but now there is no time for sewing for Walmart (darn!), quilting, counting crosstitching, or creating dolls. Now, as a teacher, I face unforgiving deadlines; I face never ending stacks of paperwork; and I face unrelenting schedules. However, I also see the expectant faces of my students; I feel the warmth of their smiles and hugs; I accept the awesome responsibility to help shape (and sometimes even reshape) the life of a child. I believe with my whole heart that I've had the best of all worlds. I was fortunate enough to be able to choose to be at home with my own children and am still able to have the best "job" in the whole wide world -- classroom teacher -- even better, a looping classroom teacher! It's the hardest job you'll ever love!

Just call me the world's luckiest teacher, Elaine!
