I used to be By Christy

Hi! I used to be a pediatric nurse....., How does it compare? The pay was MUCH better- you actually get paid for the hours you work! I never had to bring work home with me.But as a teacher I get to see the difference | I make in my students lives. I know what I am working for the whole school year (no shift work) I get all weekends and holidays off (I don't have to go in to work on those days!)- although I do miss being off in the middle of the week to get things done. I think what I like best about teaching is that I actually get to know my students and get to spend a whole year with them- sometimes | | more (I teach special ed) as opposed to only taking care of them for a few days or weeks and then never seeing them again. I also like the fact that however stressful teaching is, it is rarely a life or death situation- I do not miss coding kids (and babies) having patients die or being with the parents when they find out that their child will never get better. I also don't miss being the person who made kids cry (giving injections starting IVs). Also teaching is more family friendly- my daughter goes to the same school as me and has the same days off- I don't have to worry about daycare (or nightcare). Come to think of it the only thing I really miss about nursing is the pay!
