    My first career
    By Sue

I was a computer techie -- then the Marketing Manager for an interational company. The aspects of my job that are similar are:

    meetings
    writing
    forms
    paperwork
    setting my own timelines/goals
    working long hours

Things that are different and that I miss from my
    business career>
freedom to go out to lunch
state of the art computer equipment
    talking with adults
    merit pay
    huge bonuses
I don't have time at school to do computer research, write, etc. I do these at home.

Things that I do not miss>
    backstabbing
    competition for promotions
    travel
working so that others can be millionaires! Ha ha
    miniscule vacations - holidays
That kooky COMPANY PICNIC! (need we go there?)

Things that I LOVE about teaching
    having FUN with my students
    hugs
    Being creative
    seeing the AHA! moment
watching my students act in plays and sing in performances
Laughing with my teacher colleagues over the lastest "guess what happened in my class today"?!
    -- johnny's snake got out
-- a television crew filmed us
-- Josie read a chapter book
    -- my computer blew up
    etc.
I can work at home (grade papers, make lesson plans.)

Hope this helps. My values today are somewhat different than what they were when I was in the corporate world. But of course, I think that is also because I am a mom, too.
