other careers
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
I worked for the City I lived in within tourism. (It was a tourist attraction in the city) While I enjoyed the job (meeting people, helping with weddings, tour groups, etc.,) when one works for a city department there is
really very little room for advancement. I had 3 weeks holidays, worked most major holidays, had shift work and while I didn't have work to take home, I rarely made it out of my job until I had put in an extra hour most days. (On my own time).

As far as stress is concerned, I still had to deal with administration, poor wages (much less than a teacher's salary), difficult colleagues,

the public (trust me some public members outshine the worst parents I've had to deal with), meetings, etc.,

I wouldn't trade being a teacher with my old job! While I think there are other careers out there that I could be happy with, I really do enjoy working with children and teaching.
